OVERVIEW
Description
IEDPL ISSI-550L Salt Spray Instrument
The IEDPL ISSI-550L Salt Spray Instrument is a robust, precision-controlled laboratory testing chamber designed for evaluating the corrosion resistance and environmental durability of metallic materials, protective coatings, painted surfaces, plated components, and other test specimens. Manufactured by Innotech Engineering Devices Pvt. Ltd., the instrument is designed to provide controlled and repeatable testing conditions for corrosion and humidity-related evaluations.
The ISSI-550L is primarily designed to perform Salt Spray (Fog) Testing in accordance with ASTM B117 and Condensation Humidity Testing in accordance with ASTM D2247. These standardized tests are widely used in industries such as automotive, electrical and electronics, metal finishing, paints and coatings, hardware, aerospace, manufacturing, and quality-control laboratories to assess the performance and durability of protective coatings and materials under accelerated environmental conditions.
Advanced Test Chamber Design
The instrument incorporates a corrosion-resistant Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) or equivalent construction, making it suitable for continuous exposure to salt solution and corrosive test environments. The chamber is designed with non-corrosive, scratch-resistant internal surfaces and double-wall insulation to provide improved thermal stability and consistent test conditions.
With an approximate working capacity of 450–550 litres, the chamber provides sufficient space for testing multiple panels, coupons, components, or specimens simultaneously. The robust chamber floor is designed to support a specimen load of approximately 125 kg, while four corrosion-resistant slotted sample racks provide a minimum holding capacity of approximately 70 coupons, depending on specimen dimensions and the applicable test arrangement.
Controlled Temperature and Humidity
The ISSI-550L provides controlled test temperatures from ambient temperature up to +50°C, with temperature stability maintained within approximately ±1°C of the set temperature after stabilization. Temperature measurement is performed using a Pt100 platinum resistance temperature sensor, providing reliable and accurate temperature monitoring.
For condensation humidity testing, the chamber is capable of maintaining approximately 95%–100% relative humidity, allowing the equipment to perform humidity exposure conditions required for ASTM D2247 testing.
Salt Solution and Spray Generation System
The instrument is equipped with an external 100–120 litre minimum salt solution/brine reservoir, allowing convenient filling, draining, cleaning, inspection, pH checking, and monitoring of the solution level. The external reservoir facilitates easy handling and maintenance while keeping the test chamber dedicated to specimen testing.
A peristaltic pump provides controlled dosing of salt solution to the atomizing system. A flow meter is incorporated for monitoring and controlling the salt solution flow, while a suitable atomizing nozzle generates the required salt fog inside the test chamber. A pressure regulator and pressure gauge are provided to control and monitor the compressed-air pressure supplied to the nozzle system.
The system is designed to use clean, dry, oil-free compressed air for reliable salt-fog generation. Appropriate fog collection and measurement arrangements are provided to enable verification of salt concentration and fallout/collection rate in accordance with the applicable requirements of ASTM B117.
PLC-Based Control and 7-Inch HMI
The ISSI-550L is equipped with a PLC-based control and monitoring system and a 7-inch Full HD touch-panel HMI mounted at the front of the equipment. The user-friendly interface allows operators to conveniently configure, monitor, and control the test parameters without requiring a separate computer for normal operation.
The control system provides facilities such as:
- Programmable/automatic test mode
- Set and actual temperature display
- Set and actual humidity display
- Test time display
- Chamber ON/OFF status indication
- Alarm and fault indication
- Fault diagnostic facility
- Test status indication
- Test parameter monitoring and control
Programmable Testing and Data Logging
The equipment provides internal memory for storing multiple test programs and allows users to create complex, multi-step test profiles. Important test parameters such as temperature, humidity, and time can be programmed according to the desired testing procedure.
The system is also designed for real-time monitoring and data logging, enabling test information to be recorded and stored for future reference. Temperature and humidity data can be displayed against time on a single graph, providing a convenient method for reviewing test conditions and identifying variations during the test cycle.
PC/Laptop Connectivity
For enhanced monitoring and data management, the ISSI-550L is provided with a LAN/Ethernet communication interface for connection to a PC or laptop. The communication facility can support remote monitoring, chamber parameter control, real-time data logging, test data storage and retrieval, and test-profile management.
This connectivity makes the instrument suitable for laboratories where electronic test records, centralized monitoring, and traceability of test results are important.
Safety and Operator Convenience
Operator safety and convenient operation are incorporated into the chamber design. The system includes appropriate safety interlocks and controlled chamber operation. The chamber is designed with an observation window that allows the operator to visually inspect the test specimens during running or pause conditions without unnecessarily disturbing the test environment.
After completion of testing, automatic purging of the cabinet interior with fresh air is provided before opening the chamber door, helping to remove residual fog from the test chamber and providing a safer operating environment.
The chamber is also equipped with suitable fog outlet and drain connections for safe and convenient connection to the customer's exhaust and drainage arrangements.
ort reliable long-term laboratory use.
